I drive with my 2cv also in winter and now I use Teboil 0W40 oil, without problems. You must remember that in hot level both oil is w40. The 0W version is thinner only in cold level.

Hi Bart, I use Castrol 5w40 and it works well.

Back in the days when oil was very thick in cold weather we had epidemic that oil coolers were exploding after the start when the oil presure is its highest level. This isn’t problem anymore with modern oils.

One important point is that if you have been driving with mineral oils for years and now you change synthetic ones instead, some gaskets might not like. Some substances are reacting and the gaskets become hard. For these cases I have 2 options: Change the synthetic oil now and drive it daily, check the leaks and change the leaking gaskets now when its still easy. Below -20 its not fun anymore. The other option is Valvoline MaxLife half synthetic oil which seems to work well in much used 2cv engine too.

When changing oil type to another you should always change the filter too. Some types are not mixing well together and in the filter there is plenty of old oil left.

    Cheers

okay, thanks guys, I’ll leave it in and keep an eye on it in the coming weeks and hope for the best.
I am rather unkeen on engine problems as I wouldn’t really have the time to sort them besides busy work with wintertesting in Lapland the week before the raid.
I picked 0W40 because of the 40 (hot grade) so as Mika says it has the same viscosity when the engine is warm. My engine is some 130000km old since a rebuild with a good used crank and cam.. gaskets should not be much older than 4 years as I rebuild the lot on a different crankcase due to a crack in the old case.

    Prices in Finland
Price for food in Finland is about 20% more expensive as in Germany or in Belgium. In shops and also in restaurants.
Alcohol and cigarette price is about duple in Finland. in shop 0,5 liter can of beer costs about 2,50 euro in restaurant about 6 euro. Bottle of win in Alko-shop starting from 15 euro 0,7 liter and in restaurant about 25 euro.
    Fuel cost at moment 98E 1,57 euro/liter.
If you travel from Travemünde, there is in harbor office building a cheep shop to bay beer and alcohol before going to ferry. Shop is Weincontor Berner, Zum Hafenplatz 1
23570 Travemünde (www.sariberner.de). Just before you enter harbor you turn from last crossing to left and drive 500m to office building parking. Shop is inside in office building.
You have to be careful with food and drinks, as you cannot leave them over night in your 2CV. We have already minus degrees, and food, beer and win will freeze over night in you 2CV, so you have to bring them inside.
I hope this info will help you to prepare your Raid !!

    Spare tire
I also take only 1 spare tire, but it make sense to take a extra tube with you in case you got problems.

    Hello

Some special wishes from someone to bring to Helsinki from Austria?
    .

    Hi fastpage,
Finnish alcohol stores are having only small collection of Austrian wines so if you have any extra room I would be intrested to have some Grüner Veltliner white wine. Last time when I visited Austria I noticed that you can get really good wines from this grape and the price isn´t bad. So if you can pick some, I will be intrested. But don´t take any stress about it! This is a request only if you have room for 1-6 extra bottles. Price can be between 3-10e/bottle and the brand is your choice, only the grape matters 😉

    Thanks!

    Hi,

What’s the deal with the snow-scooters, is it 2 people on a scooter, only reserve it once?

    Greetings,
    Tim and Femke
