The 1st Raid 4 Arctic Ducks is taking place on 3.-10. February 2018. Our start point is Helsinki and turn around point is Nordkapp, the northernmost part of Europe. Between these points we’ll have a nice adventure through snowy, windy, and icy roads for 8 days, from Helsinki to Nordkapp and back to Finland.
We don’t know yet how many Citroën 2CV’s actually can join the Raid, but we’re planning on having about half participants from Finland and the other half from other European countries. The official organiser of this Raid is Finnish 2CV Guild. Staff team is almost totally new, only the route planner is a well-known Henkka Castrén.
According to the weather statistics, the beginning of February is the coldest time of the year in Finland. In practise, the temperature may vary from –50° C to +5° C. The lowest temperature during the previous winter raids has been –44.2° in 1998 in Naruska. Actually we are waiting very much to have temperatures close the the previous temperature record.
The solar activity, producing the northern lights aka Aurora Borealis, has been very high now (see www.virmalised.ee ). The northern lights are produced by electrically charged particles from the sun crashing into the Earth’s magnetic field about 100 km above the Earth. During the northern lights, the sky shows multicolour and multi-dimensional cascades and, especially in the polar region, a crown of northern lights may cover the whole sky. We are expecting to see multiple magnificient northern lights during the our adventure.
The Raid 4 Arctic Ducks is planned to reach Nordkapp (northern latitude 71°10`21″) on February 6, 2018, the sun rises at 8.53 and the sun sets at 14.10. At noon, the sun is 3°5 above the horizon.

Raid 4 Arctic Ducks järjestetään 3.-10. helmikuuta 2018. Lähtöpaikka on Helsinki ja kääntöpisteenä toimii Euroopan pohjoisin kolkka Nordkapp. Näiden pisteiden välillä koemme hienon seikkailun läpi jäisten, lumisten ja tuulisten teiden.
Mukaan retkelle mahtuu reilu parikymmentä Citroën 2CV autokuntaa, joista noin puolet on tarkoitus olla suomalaisia ja puolet osoitettu ulkolaisille 2CV:n ystäville. Raidin virallinen järjestäjä on Suomen 2CV-Kilta ry. Teami on uusiutunut lähes kokonaan, ainoastaan reittimestari on tunnettu Henkka Castrén.
Säätilastojen perusteella helmikuun alku on vuoden kylmintä aikaa Suomessa. Lämpötila voi hyvinkin vaihdella –50°C ja +5°C välillä. Aikaisempien saman tyyppisten raidien pakkasennätys –44.2°C saavutettiin Naruskassa 1998. Odotamme kylmiä ja arktisia olosuhteita myös uudella Raid 4 Arctic Duck seikkailulla.
Auringon aktiivisuus on tällä hetkellä erittäin korkealla, uskomme sen olevan korkealla myös raidimme aikaan. Katso lisää revontulien aktiivisuudesta www.virmalised.ee. Auringosta lähtevät maapallon magneettikenttään osuvat varautuneett hiukkaset synnyttävät eri väreissä hohtavat monimuotoiset revontulet noin 100 km korkeudella maan pinnalta. Odotamme näkevämme mahtavia revontulia seikkailumme aikana.
Helmikuun 6. päivänä jolloin Raid 4 Arctic Ducks on tarkoitus saavuttaa Nordkapp, aurinko nousee Nordkapissa kello 8.53 ja laskee 14.10. Keskipäivällä aurinko on vajaan 3,5 asteen korkeudella.

Le premier “Raid for Artic Ducks” se déroulera du 3 au 10 février 2018. Notre point de départ se situe à Helsinki et notre point de retournement sera le Cap Nord, partie la plus septentrionale d’Europe. Nous aurons, entre ces deux points, une agréable aventure sur des routes enneigées, ventées et/ou glacées pendant 8 jours, sur l’allée retour d’Helsinki au cap Nord.
Nous ne savons pas à l’heure actuelle combien de 2CV participeront au Raid, mais le groupe devrait se composer d’une moitié de participants finlandais et d’une autre de participants venant de différents pays européens. L’organisateur officiel du raid est la Guilde finlandaise des 2CV. L’équipe organisatrice a presque entièrement été renouvelée, seul le planificateur de l’itinéraire, Henkka Castren jouit d’une certaine notoriété.
Selon les statistiques météorologiques, le début du mois de février est la période la plus froide en Finlande. Ceci se traduit par des variations de température de -50°C à +5°C. La température la plus basse rencontrée au cours des précédents raids hivernaux ayant été de -44,2°C en 1998 à Naruska. Nous nous attendons vraiment à rencontrer de telles températures, proches du précédent record.
L’activité solaire, à l’origine des aurores polaires ou aurores boréales, y est vraiment intense (voir www.virmalised.ee). Les aurores polaires sont produites par des particules solaires chargées rencontrant le champ magnétique terrestre dans l’atmosphère, à une centaine de km d’altitude. Lors de ces aurores, le ciel présente des cascades multidimensionnelles multicolores, au niveau de la région polaire, une couronne d’aurores boréales peut recouvrir le ciel dans son ensemble. Nous espérons en observer de nombreuses au cours de notre aventure.
Il est prévu que le “Raid for Artic Ducks” atteigne le Cap Nord (latitude 71°10’21’’) le 6 février 2018, le soleil se lèvera alors à 8h53 et se couchera à 14h10. A midi, il se situera à 3°5 au-dessus de l’horizon.
