Welcome to join 4th Raid Mosquito starting on the last day
of Sätkälän
Säpinät Meeting (the 50th anniversary of Finnish 2CV Guild)
on Sunday 22.7.2012. We have tried to create a route
with both cultural and natural sights like wilderness parks
with animals, lakes, rivers, dusty dirt roads and for example
world´s largest smoke sauna where the dust can be washed out.
The further North we drive, the more we can enjoy the light
even at night although most of the driving will happen in
daytime. In the night we can listen to the voices of the nature,
like the lovely mosquito buzz.
We hope that a lot of new friendships will be created during
this raid. There will be partcipants from many European countries.
The planning has started well in advance and we have sent
enquiries to may places to make the raid affordable to you.
In this information you will find the essentials.
If you have any questions, you can email to Matti Castrén:
hupimestari-at-2cv.

The participation fee
The participation fee is plnned to be 40€ per car. It includes
the needed information and map prints, stickers and one common
meal. The size of the group is limited to 80 persons meaning
approximately 40 cars. The fee should paid in advance before
31.5.2012 . After this date new teams can be acepted only
if there is still space or you will be placed on a waiting
list. The places will be filled in the order of arriving payments.
The fee will not be refunded if you decide to cancel.
The fee will not include camping fees or other meals than
the one mentioned. The organizers make the reservations of
camping places in advance, but the participants pay their
camping fees separately at each overnight spot according to
the number of people etc.
Driving
Traditionally, we drive in smaller freeformed groups of 3-4
cars. Everyone is free to choose the company and the route
according to own interests and timetable. In the information
below, we suggest some places to visit. It is up to you to
make your own plans, but keep the organizers informed especially
if you plan to camp elsewhere than the planned overnight spot.
At the daily Driver´s Meetings, we will talk about the plans
in detail. Some maps and other information like brochures
will be supplied. Anyhow, we recommend that you purchase a
good map of Finland. A trusted co-driver or an electronic
navigator is not a bad idea either.
The preparations for your 2CV
Any regular good condition and well-maintained 2CV is ok for
the raid. Generally speaking the roads in Finland are in a
good shape, even the more inspiring smaller dirt roads which
we will drive whenever possible. The distances between petrol
stations get longer as we go North, so keep a filled spare
reservoir in your car. We will drive 1800 km up to North Cape,
so some minor repairs can be expected. We hope you will carry
some essential spares in your car, but no need to empty your
whole garage. Apua-Help 2CV Road Service booklet and a first
aid kit are some good accessories, too.
Weather and Clothing
Be prepared for changing weather conditions by reserving clothes
for lower temperatures, too. Especially evenings and nights
can be cold in Lapland and North Cape is not really known
as a typical beach holiday site. Rubber boots and raincoats
do not take too much space, but they make life more comfortable
in case of rain.
Cooking & Meals
The cooking is most simple with your own camping cooker and
it is comfortable to use at stops at roadside whenever hungry.
Some campings are equipped with simple kitchen facilities.
If you don’t want toi waste your time with cooking, we have
looked up some places with Finnish specialities which we can
recommend.
